Ms. Deb Finklang

What made you want to be a teacher?

  • I like the idea that I can make a difference in the lives of my students.

What college(s)did you attend?

  • I attended University of Pittsburgh for my B.A. in French and a minor in Political Science. I attended Robert Morris University for my M.S in Educational Leadership and English teaching certification. Finally, I attended Pittsburgh Technical College for Massage Therapy.


When did you start teaching?

  • I started teaching in 2006.


What is your favorite thing about teaching?

  • My favorite thing about teaching is getting to know my students.


What is your favorite quote?

  • “Just do it” I say it every day.


If you could meet one person from history, who would it be and why?

  • I would definitely have some questions for William Shakespeare.


What is your funniest teaching moment?

  • I fell in front of an entire class of students my first year of teaching. Once the students realized I wasn’t hurt, we all had a good laugh, and we cleaned up the huge mess of papers that went everywhere.


What three traits best describe you?

  • I would describe myself as hardworking, kind, and independent.


What is your favorite food?

  • I don’t have a favorite food, but my favorite place to eat food is outside in the summer!

What is your favorite movie?

  • Well, two of my favorite books became movies: The Count of Monte Cristo and Les Miserables

Do you have any hobbies? If so, what?

  • I love reading. All English teachers do! In addition, I love spending time with my two children and my dog, Lola, and I love running and traveling.


What are three characteristics you believe every teacher should have?

  • I think teachers should have patience, empathy and a sense of humor.
